pROJECT: elaine holmes - Nursing graduation photo restoration

Processed/edited in five parts. Background, Face, Hair, Uniform, Roses. Removed discoloring on background including, spots, dust, water damage etc. Shadows were adjusted to allow for more depth. Utilized a noise reduction filter to soften pixelating features. Also ran a slight Highpass Filter to gently sharpen some key features. ie: faces and texture. Dampening alot of highlites and blowouts. Minor adjustments for adding back in hilights such as the hair. Overall, considering the ultraviolet damage this images sustained over the years, I was thrilled to be able to get it back this state. The biggest challenge with these projects is retaining the vintage nature. Restorations should not display a final image that looks like it was taken yesterday, but preserve the natural textures, colors and depth of the original. I hope this was accomplished.

***As an additional side note, nursing pins were sourced via the Royal Jubilee Hospital archives. A picture was taken of the small collection they had. I was hoping to bring this important characteristic in to sharper focus. Of the selection the one utilize in the image seemed to fit the shadowed and faded contour of the the original.
